An Electro Technical Rating (ETR)  performs duties prescribed by STCW regulation III/7 of STCW as amended in 2010. They are also refrred to as ship's electician in many regions around the world.

An ETR monitors all onboard electronic and electrical equipment and maximizes the operational safety and efficiency of the vessel and works at the support level.

 

ETR is under the command of the Chef Engineer and or sometimes under Chief Electrical Officer as the case with many cruise ships.
